- Final Reports and Presentations: The chosen topics are listed here, and the instructions and guidelines (including timelines) are
listed here. An example of final report from a student who took
the course a few years ago is posted here. Final presentations will
be given on Tuesday, May 6, 12-3 pm (our final exam slot), so the written reports
are due no later than Saturday, May 3.
- Homework Assignment 8: The questions posted here.
Due Friday, May 2, by 5 pm. I suggest however at least working on the first problem in preparation for the test on Wednesday, April 30.
- Test 4: As also discussed in class, there will be an additional test on Friday,
May 9 at a time to be announced later. This test will be mostly on the material covered in the last
two weeks of classes, but it will also include a few questions on some parts of the previous
material–details will be provided by May 2. The tentative length of the test will be two hours, and it will account for the 20% listed for the Final Exam in the syllabus, for the purposes of the final grade.
- Test 3: As discussed in class, there will be a third test on Wednesday, Apri 30
(at 11 am in Room 1, the Lewis Hall astronomy lab, as usual). This test will cover mixed and
multi-particle quantum states and statistics, the quantum monatomic ideal gas, and the photon,
boson and fermion non-interacting quantum gases. The lowest of the scores of each student on Tests 1-3 will not be used towards the final grade (the other two scores will each account for 15% of the total).
- Homework Assignment 7: The questions posted here.
Due Friday, April 18, by 5 pm.
