Been a while since my last post!  Here are a few noteworthy points:
  • *  Recitations are now happening!  They occur Mon. 6-7 and Wed. 5-6 in Lewis   109.
12-6

Exam Info:
* Exam will be cumulative
* You may bring a 4x6" notecard with anything you want on it
* Also bring a WORKING calculator and pencils
* Format of the exam will be the same as the tests but about 50% longer
* There will be a 5pt extra credit
* If any chapters were "conceptual only" on a test, they also will be on the exam.

Don't forget to finish up your web based Extra Credit BEFORE the exam!

The Review Session will be in Lewis 101, Wed. 2:30 - 4:30.  Bring questions!
12-3

Here are the solutions for Test 4.
I have computed your averages going into the exam based on the following assumptions:
    1. You do the extra credit
    2. You make the same grade on the exam as your test average
         (hopefully much better!)
    3. In the end, I will drop the lowest HW grade which is not done here.

The exam review will be Wed. afternoon between 2:30 - 4:30.  I still have not found a room yet, but will let you know.  I will do some general overview, but you should come with questions!

The solutions for Test 3 are now posted.  They are encrypted, so you'll need the password I sent you at the beginning of the course for opening all password protected PDFs I post.
There are a number of you who are in the D or F range.  We now have 1 test left and the final.  You NEED to be making a big push now to pull things up.  As always, I am available to help you with material and study tips!
Also note I posted a HW on WebAssign for Chap. 14 which is due Friday.
10-29

There was a copy-paste error in the Test Grade Table linked below.  I have now fixed the problem and the grades should be correct.  If you think there are further errors, please let me know.
ALSO, I will be posting a new WebAssign over the weekend!

I have Test 3 graded.  The average was a 63 which includes a 5 point curve.  You can see the distribution of scores here and look up your score by your class code here (note all test scores are included in the table).

Here are some things for you to download and take a look at:

* Midterm grades.  You'll need your class ID which is a 3 digit number you should have received in an email from me.  I've posted your HW average, tests average, numerical overall average and midterm grade.

* The Yo-Yo problem with the sign problem fixed.

* The solutions to Test 2.  You should make sure to go over these and UNDERSTAND why you got each problem/question wrong and why the coreect response is correct!  See me if you don't understand something.

IMPORTANT!
The other Physics 211 faculty met to adjust the lecture schedule allowing us some more time to spend on certain topics at the cost of eliminating others.  I have posted a revised lecture schedule (including updated test dates and coverages).

Test 2 is now scheduled for Wed. Oct. 6 and will cover Chaps. 5 - 8.  Same routine as last time - same format, you get a 3x5" notecard, ...

HW on Chap. 7 & 8 is now posted on WebAssign and will be due Monday night (10/4).

Here are the solutions to Test 1.  PLEASE go over them carefully and see me if you are not understanding something.  You WILL see this material again.  I have also posted the grade distribution for the test.
Also, I have decided to curve Test 1 by 10 points.
I have posted a short assignment on Chap. 6 and we'll get started on Chap. 7 on Wed.

We will be having Test 1 covering Chaps. 1-5 on Friday.  Since we took a bit more time on Chap. 5 and have not had enough time for a HW assignment, the Chap. 5 material will be conceptual (no problems).  Here is some test info:
  • There will be about 20 MC questions testing your conceptual understanding and 3-4 worked out problems.
  • You may bring a 3x5" notecard with anything you want on it.
  • You will need pencils and a calculator (no scantrons or extra paper needed).
  • TRY to get here a few minutes early so you are settled and ready to go at 9:00 on the dot.
I will hold a review session Thurs. from 4 - 5 (location TBA).  Don't forget to get to the recitation sessions (Mon. 6:00-7:30 & Wed. 5:00 - 6:30 both in Lewis 101).

Also, HW04 is now posted on WebAssign.  It will be due next Monday, but I'd try to work on it some to help you with your Chap. 5 concepts!

Make sure you are keeping up with your reading in the book!  You should be working your way through Chap. 5 now.

Here are the solutions for the Math Review Sheet.  Remember, if you had a hard time with the integrals, that's OK (for now), but you should be able to do the derivatives! Feel free to come talk to me if you need to.
8-23
08-27
Here is the math review sheet.  It is not for a grade, so don't worry if you can not do the integrals.  You should however be able to solve the derivatives.  And when I say "solve", I mean by pencil and paper - not Mathematica!
I have also posted some calculus and vector operation tables which may be helpful to have handy.  They are password protected with the same password as the lecture slides.

Here are the slides from Lecture 01 on Chap. 01.  The password to open the file was given in class and will be emailed to you.

We will periodically be using a suite of web based physics simulations from the "Physics Eduaction Technology" website (phet.colorado.edu).  I find these simulations helpful for students to build a physical intuition about concepts.  I enourage you to go there and "play" with simulations on topics we are covering in class.

HW01:CHAP01 on Web Assign is due.

Make sure to get your WebAssign account up and running and "Join" this class. Here are some instructions to help you get started.

IMPORTANT!  Lab DOES begin this week.  Make sure to get to your lab section about 10 minutes early to get settled and bring a calculator.

Welcome to Physics 211.
This is the page to which you should refer most often.  It is where I will post homework assignments, make announcements, post test scores and distributions, and will be my primary mode of communication with you (other than lectures of course!).  Make sure to take a good look at the course syllabus and lecture schedule and let me know if there is anything you do  not understand.
