Astronomy 104 (Sec. 1-8)

Tests, Spring 2024

There are no (lecture or lab) classes on Fridays.
However, there are in-person tests four times the semester, at the same hour as the regular class, but on Fridays.

First Test: Feb. 23, Friday. A one hour test. Click for the solutions after the test. (The solved questions are in a different order from the actual test - scrambled.)
Second Test: March 22, Friday. A one hour test. Click for the solutions after the test. (The solved questions are in a different order from the actual test - scrambled.)
Third Test: April 26, Friday. A one hour test. Click for the solutions after the test. (The solved questions are in a different order from the actual test - scrambled.)
Comprehensive Final Exam: a two-hour test in-person. The final cannot be rescheduled without the Dean's prior approval. The times are May 6, Monday, 4:00-6:00 for sections 1-2-3-4 and May 10, Friday, 4:00-6:00, for sections 5-6-7-8.
One pass or fail test of basic questions. March 1, Friday. A one hour test. The passing level is 90%. The solutions are available now. (This file is in PDF format.)

Those students who do not pass (or do not try) this test will be offered a re-take by the price of lost partial credit.

Anyone who does not pass the pass/fail test will fail the course!

The tests are multiple choice. Only the textbook may be used during tests, no internet use.
Students are responsible to inform the instructor of any conflicts as soon as possible so that a resolution can be found in time.

Missed tests will normally count as zero. If you absolutely have to miss a test, you need to (1) inform the instructor at the earliest time possible, (2) provide documentation why it is impossible for you to take the test. Do not expect any leniency regarding missed tests!
The first three tests contain about 40-60 multiple choice questions.

There is an equal number of questions on each of the following, only on the material covered since the last test:

Questions are taken from the quizzes, scrambled, with minor changes in the language
Questions are taken from the reading assignments
Questions that refer to what is on the posted slides (used in class).
Questions that refer to what was explained, orally, in class.

The final contains multiple choice questions; about 60-70.

There is an equal number of questions on each of the following, on all the semester's material (comprehensive):

Questions are taken from the previous tests, scrambled, with minor changes in the language.
Questions are taken from the reading assignments.
Questions that refer to what is on the posted slides (used in class).
Questions that refer to what was explained, orally, in class.
A good way to prepare for the tests would be to:
1. Review the presentations that were in class, new and old. Make sure you understand everything in there.
2. Review the quiz questions. Take time to understand the reason why each of the wrong answers are wrong and why the right answers are correct.
3. Review the reading assignments.
4. When you feel you are missing something use the textbook to find the answer. Use the index in the textbook.
5. If you can't answer something, call or see the instructor or your lab TA and ask your question.
6. Review and re-learn the pass/fail questions in case you have forgotten any.
