12/11
I have posted the exam grades and final submitted grades for the course.  You may look them up here by your class ID number.

Have a nice break!
12/8
I discovered a slight problem in the lab grades for Section 8.  I have updated the posted grades.  If you feel the lab grade is not what you expected, please come by and see me today to take a look at the details.  I will be in my Observatory office from about 2:00 until the exam at 4:00.

Don't forget your purple scantron!!

Here are some links to answer keys for the tests (these have been posted for some time, but I add these links for your convenience):
Test Keys:

12/6
After a bit of hashing through the lab grades, I now have them incorporated with the overall averages.  I have updated the grades posted, which you can view here.

Don't forget you are allowed a 4"x6" notecard for the final exam on Friday at 4:00 in Lewis 101. (see other Exam reminders/notes below)

Study Hard!
12/1
Read this first!!
I have posted your grades I have recorded and done some averaging to help you understand your grade going into the exam.  I do NOT HAVE the real lab grades yet from the TAs, so put an 85 in for everyone as an expected class average.  NOTE!!  This does not mean you have an 85 for your lab grade.  As soon as I get the real lab grades, I will up date the posted grades.  ALSO, the exam grade I put in for you is an average of all your test scores.

Click here to see the grades.

Don't forget the Review session next Thursday from 2:00 to 3:30 in the Observatory.
11/30
Some of you are confused about the exam date.

Our exam is on Friday Dec. 8 (that's the Friday of exam week) at 4:00 in Lewis 101.

The Review session is the Thursday before that (Dec. 7) from 2:00 to 3:30 in the Observatory.
11/29
Here are the final results for Test #3 including your HW bonus points.  I will hand back the papers today in class along with answer keys (which you may also download here).  You may also see a distribution of the grades here.  Make sure to look over the test and understand why the correct answer is correct!  You may well see these questions again in the near future!

I hope to have the lab grades by Thursday night so I can post your grades going into the final by Friday afternoon.

I have also posted the solutions for the final HW from Chap. 19 and 20 (which is not to be turned in).

A few reminders:
  • There are still many homework papers sitting in the HW return box in the Physics tutoring room.  They will be discarded after the exam.
  • I also still have many old test papers which were not picked up during class.  These will be a valuable way to study for the exam!  I will be around during regular office hours exam week for you to ask questions and pick up your old tests.
  • Our exam is on Friday at 4:00 (yes I know that stinks!)  You will need a purple scantron and pencil and may bring in a 4x6 notecard.
  • Mkae sure to look here Friday afternoon to see your grades so you know where you stand and to make sure there are no mistakes.
11/27
I have the results for Test #3 posted here.  These scores reflect a 10 point "adjustment" after going through all the questions, but do NOT include the HW bonus points yet.  I should have those calculated and posted by Tuesday night.

Make sure to be reading Chap. 19 and 20 and here are some questions to work through:
Chap. 19:  Excer. 4, 8, 9, 16, 20, 34, 39
Chap. 20: Excer: 7, 9, 11, 16, 19, 29

You will not need to turn this assignment in, but I will post solutions by this Friday.

Stay tuned for an exam review session to be held next week.

Don't forget to go to your lab final this week! (at your normal lab time)
11/13
A few important notes:
1.  I mistakenly said that the test will cover Chapter 10 which we skipped.  The test #3 will NOT cover Chapter 10!
2. Don't forget your purple scantron sheets.
3. The review session is Tuesday from 2:30 to 3:30 in the Observatory.

I also have posted solutions for the recent HW aqssignments:
1. HW09 (Chap. 11-12)
2. HW10 (Chap. 13-14)
3. HW11 (Chap. 15-17)

Study hard for the test!
11/13
Don't forget that our final test will be given this Wed. (11/15) in class.  I will have a review session on Tuesday from 2:30 - 3:30 in the Observatory and will have extended office hours Wed. morning from 10 - 12 Noon.  Simple harmionic motion (Chap. 18) will NOT be covered on the test.

Also don't forget that the last lab make time is this Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00.
These makeups are for labs missed for a VALID REASON and I need some documentation (like a doctors note).  Please make sure to get me that documentation BEFORE Thursday.
11/7
Our Test #3 on Chap. 10-17 (selected readings) has been postponed until Wed. 11/15 in class!

Here are is the assignment for HW#11 out of Chaps. 15, 16, and 17 (make sure to clearly show which problems go with which chapter!)  This will be due on Monday (11/13) during class.

I realized I forgot to put a due date on HW#09.  It will be due Wed. Nov. 1 in class.

We will begin Chap. 14 on Gases today in class.
10/17
I have the grades posted from Test #2. You can look them up by your class ID number.  I've included your test score with a few adjustments (I tossed out a few questions), all the recorded HW scores up HW#8, the total HW bonus points, and your final test score including the HW bonus.  You can look it up on a web page or download a PDF file.

There are a number of you who are in danger of failing the course.  If you have less than a 60% average between the two final test scores, you need to come see me to discuss what we can do to get your grades up - it is NOT my desire to fail anyone in this class!

There are some sections of the following chapters which you do NOT NEED TO READ:
Chap. 11:  Anti-matter and Dark Matter
Chap. 12:   Tension and Compression, Scaling,  and Arches
Chap. 13:  Surface Tension and Capillarity
Chap. 14:  Plasmas
10/26
Here is the HW#09 assignment including both Chap. 11 and 12:
Chap. 11: Excer: 8, 10, 16, 19, 33
Chap. 12: Excer: 8, 13, 14, 15
Make sure to clearly mark on your HW sheet to which Chap. your answers correspond.

I have the Test #2 grades computed, but want to include the bonus points from your HW#08 assignment which I should have on Friday.  I'll post the final test grades with all bonus points added Friday afternoon.

10/20
I have posted the solutions for HW#08 (Chap.9) which was due by Noon today (Friday).

Remember that Test #2 on Chap. 6 - 9 will be on Monday in class.  You MUST bring a Purple scantron sheet and #2 pencils.  You may also bring a 3x5" notecard on which you may write anything you want (front and back).  I will also provide calculators.

I will be in my Kennon Observatory office from 1:00 to 3:00 on Monday afternoon for any last minute questions.

Study hard!!
10/16
Important Note:  Test#2 has been postponed until Mon. (10/23).  It will cover Chaps. 6 - 9 and will be a similar format to the last test.  Don't wait to get prepared for it - begin reviewing early and see me (or someone)for help on things you don't understand!!  Also, don't forget the Physics Tutoring room for free help!

We are skipping Chap. 10 and moving on to Chap. 11 on the "Atomic Nature of Matter", so get started reading that.

Here are the solutions for HW#07 (Chap. 08).

The assignment for HW #08 (Chap. 9) is:  Excer.  4, 10, 12, 15, 19, 25, 37, 43, 53   and Problems: 2, 4, 5
It is due in my box in the Tutoring room (toward bottom on left) by noon on Friday (10/20)
10/11
We're starting Chap. 9 on Gravity today, so start reading that Chapter.

A reminder to make sure to pick up your graded HW papers in the box in the Physics tutoring room (across the hall from our class room).

10/9
Here are the solutions for HW#05 (Chap. 6) and HW#06 (Chap. 7):
10/9
Your HW assignment for Chap. 8 (HW#7) is:  Excer.: 10, 19, 24, 26, 46, 52   and Probs: 2, 5, 6.
This is due in class Monday Oct. 16.

I will post the solutions for Chap. 6 & 7 HW shortly.

A few notes about assignments:
  • Remember that each student's final HW paper MUST be their own work.  You may work in groups, but everyone must write up the assignment on their own.  This is stated clearly in the syllabus.
  • You must show your work for the problems to get credit - one line numerical answers will not get credit.
9/27
I have posted all the grades I have recorded up to this point (Sept. 27) so you may check that I have scores for all the HW you have turned in.  ALSO - I found a few ungraded stray HW papers.  Now that these papers are graded, a few of the tests scores changed since the bonus value increased.

Make sure to finish reading Chap. 7 on Energy!
9/25
Important NOTE:  The first of the two lab make-up days is next Friday (Oct. 6) at 4:00 PM in your lab room.  If you have missed any labs so far, let me know by this Friday (Sept. 29) which lab you need to make up.

The HW#05 assignment is out of Chap. 6 on Momentum and is due in class Monday Oct. 2.
Do:
Excer: 4, 5, 10, 15, 30, 53    Prob: 3, 7

You can get a head start on HW#06 out of Chap. 7 on Work and Energy which will be due Wed. Oct. 4 in class.
Do:
Excer: 7, 11, 20, 34, 37, 58  Prob:  3, 4, 5, 6,
9/22
OK - I've finished sorting out Test #1.  The original average was a about 57.  I looked at how everyone did on each question and found 3 questions for which fewer than 1/3 the class got the correct answer.  I decided to apply a "correction" to the test of 12 points to take care of those three questions.  I also added the bounus points for those who have turned in the HW assignments (up to 5 points).  The final adjusted average for the class was 72.5.

You may view a PDF file with all the scores and HW bonus points I added by clicking here.  You'll need your class ID I emailed you to find your score.  You can also view a distribution of the scores

There are a few students for which I did not receive a test (Test score = 0).  You need to see me immediately.  I will bring your tests to class on Monday to keep to study for the exam.  The answer keys to the can be downloaded for version A and version B.

9/21
I am still in the process of sorting out the scores for Test#1.  I am going back through each question to see if there are any that a vast majority of you missed to see if the scores need any "correction".  This is a bit time consuming, but it will only bring your scores up.  I should have all the results posted on Friday afternoon.  Thanks for your patience.

You should all have read Chap. 6 on momentum - I will post some problems for you to take a look at shortly.  We will begin Chap. 7 on Energy on Monday, so get a head start on that reading!

9/13
I have now posted the solutions for all the "Excercises" and "Problems" assigned so far.  You can download them as PDF files. (NOTE:  for some reason some of the files have the first page blank, but the solutions start on the 2nd page)
HW#01 solutions
HW#02 solutions
HW#03 solutions
HW#04 solutions

As stated below, HW#04 is due on Friday and you can turn it in to a box in the Physics Office anytime before 4:00 PM.  I will post solutions for HW#04 on Friday evening.

Remember:
The test on Chap. 1-5 is this coming Monday (Sept. 18).  You need to bring a PURPLE scantron sheet and a pencile.  You also may bring in a 3"x5" notecard with notes (front and back).  You may NOT use your own calculator (I will provide them).
I will out of town on Monday, but will be holding a review session this Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 in Kennon Observatory.

9/11
It has come to my attention that some or most of you do not have the "Practicing Physics" supplement to your text book.  I was under the impression that it was bundled with your book.  Since it is not, I will post answers to the HW over the next few days.

In preparation for the test Monday 9/18, I will be having a review session on Thursday afternoon in the Kennon Observatory between 2:00 and 4:00 PM.  I will be there to answer questions, but will not "present" anything - so feel free to drop by anytime during those hours.

I placed a box with the graded HW in Lewis 104 (the Physics Tutoring room).  Remember that HW is an effort grade which ranges from 0-3 depending on your effort!

9/7
You should be reading Chap. 4 on Newton's 2nd Law.  The following end of chapter questions will be due by next FRIDAY (Sept. 15).  There will be a box in the main Physics Office in which you can turn it in anytime before 4:00 PM.
Rev. Questions: 8, 9, 10, 19, 24, 31, 32  and  Excer. : 7, 11, 17, 20, 27, 32, 37

If you haven't noticed, the answers to the odd number problems are in your "Practicing Physics" book which came with the text.  You should try the question before looking at that, but make sure you understand the answers.  Also, you are welcome to come by during office hours to ask me about the even number questions.

The first test will be given in class on Monday Sept. 18th and will cover Chap. 1-4.  You will need a PURPLE scantron sheet.

Finally - Don't forget to go to lab next week!!
8/30
You should begin reading Chap. 3 and finish it by next Wed. when we meet again.  Your homework for Chap. 3 will be due next Wed. at the BEGINNING of class.  The problems at the end of the chapter you are to do are:

Rev. Question: 22;  One-Step Calculation: 4, 8, 13, 16;  Excercises: 11, 17, 28, 40;  Problem: 10

Please don't forget about my office hours.  If you are not understanding the homework, you will not do well on the tests!  If you have conflicts with my office hours, make an appointment to see me.
8/23
Go ahead and get started on your second homework assignment (HW#2):
Read Chap. 2 and at the end of the chapter do ~ E: 1, 4, 6, 13, 18, 22, 27, 30, 40, 44
HW#2 will be due at the beginning of class Wed. 8/30

The lab syllabus is now available.  We will be starting labs next week - make sure to show up at your section WITH your lab book (available at the University Printing Center).
8/21
Your first homework assignment will be to read Chap. 1 in the text book and do Exer. 2, 6, 9, 10 to be handed in at the beginning of class on Mon. (8/28).

Also - don't forget to go to lab NEXT week (starting 8/28) in Lewis 212.  You MUST purchase a lab book from the University Printing Center (across from the Police Dept.)  BEFORE you go to lab.
8/21
Welcome to Physics 107 with Dr. Gladden! This is the page to which you should refer most often.  It is where I will post homework assignments, make announcements, post test scores and distributions, and will be my primary mode of communication with you (other than lectures of course!).  Make sure to take a good look at the course syllabus (pdf) and let me know if there is anything you do  not understand.  You also should print a copy of the Lecture Schedule (pdf) and mark test dates on your calenders.
