The purpose of the meeting (as for the first meeting, held in Dubna, 1995, the second meeting, held in Santa Margherita Ligure, 1996, and the third meeting, held in Villasimius, Sardinia 1999) is to bring together workers from Field Theory, General Relativity and related areas to discuss the present status and latest developments in the quantum treatment of gravitational systems. The scientific programme, to be decided by the Advisory Committee, will consist of invited plenary talks and short communications. Advisory Committee: Orfeu Bertolami (IST Lisboa, Portugal) Luca Bombelli (Univ. Mississippi) Steve Carlip (UC Davis, USA) Alessandro D'Adda (INFN Torino, Italy) Vittorio de Alfaro (Univ. Torino, Italy) Stanley Deser (Brandeis, USA) Georgi Dvali (NYU, USA) Sergio Ferrara (CERN) Gian Francesco Giudice (CERN) Roman Jackiw (MIT, USA) Edward W. Nelson (Universita` and INFN Torino) The Conference Venue The meeting will take place at the beautiful sea resort of Cala Gonone, about 120 Kms south of Olbia, on the eastern (Tyrrhenian) coast of the island of Sardinia, Italy. About the Conference Venue Sardinia is the second largest Mediterranean island after Sicily, separated from Southern Corsica by just 13 Kms of sea, the Bonifacio straits, and is bathed by some of the cleanest water in the Mediterranean. It is stunningly beautiful and unspoilt, and boasts some of the best food in Italy. Cala Gonone is a small port and fishing village in the Gulf of Orosei, the last stretch of uninhabited Italian coast, and home to the last rare examples of monk seal. There are cliffs sweeping down to the sea, snowy white beaches, blue bays and sea caves. A wonderful vegetation of myrtle, rosemary, rock rose and sea lavender border the sandy beaches, many of which can only be reached by sea or by foot, such as, Cala Luna (Moon Beach). The white chalk rocks and limestone cliffs give the water an enticing crystalline pale blue colour. The coastline is dotted with stunning caves and caverns with remarkable stalactites, stalagmites and underground lakes. Dorgali, 10 Kms north of Cala Gonone, is famous for craftwork and is the centre of the renowned Cannonau wine-growing region. Second Announcement and Further Information: There will be a registration fee of maximum Euro 250 to be paid on arrival in Cala Gonone. A second announcement will be issued in December 2004. It will contain registration details and information about travel, accommodation, visas, etc. For organisational purposes, interested colleagues are strongly urged to pre-register by the end of November 2004. They will then receive the second announcement directly. Those participants who need an invitation in order to apply for financial support should send their request to qg05@phy.olemiss.edu.
