Compact binaries & waveforms

Building accurate descriptions of orbiting and merging compact objects across analytical and numerical relativity.

Compact binaries turn relativistic dynamics into observable gravitational waveforms. We study systems with eccentricity, spin precession, and strong nonlinear interactions, using complementary analytical and computational descriptions from the early inspiral through merger and ringdown.

From dynamics to signals

Our methods include post-Newtonian theory, numerical relativity, hyperboloidal evolution, perturbative calculations, and surrogate or reduced waveform models. We also study the asymptotic structure of spacetime—including BMS symmetries and frame choices—to connect simulations cleanly to radiation measured far from the source.
