NGC6946: a face-on galaxy in Cygnus

This faint, 10-mg galaxy is similar to what out Galaxy would look like from far away.

Telescope: Meade 12 in at f/6.55 (f=2m).

Camera: SBIG ST-10 CCD camera

Exposures: 10 min, 2 red, 3 green, and 3 blue filters; a total of 80 min exposure.

Image processing: CCDoops + CCDSoft + Photoshop CS.

The red patches in the spiral arms are H-alpha radiation from HII regions.

Exposures: red, green, blue and H-alpha filters; a total of 6 hours exposure.
