- Honorable Mention in the 2007 Gravity Research Foundation Essay Contest. The work is titled The return of the membrane paradigm? Black holes and strings in the water tap and was done in collaboration with Óscar Dias from University of Barcelona and Leonardo Gualtieri, from Rome University.
- Honorable Mention in the 2006 Gravity Research Foundation Essay Contest. The work is titled Supermassive black holes or boson stars? Hair counting with gravitational wave detectors and was done in collaboration with Emanuele Berti, now at JPL/NASA.
- Best scientific research project in Theoretical Physics with the work Gravitational Radiation and Black Hole Production in Particle Accelerators and Cosmic Rays. The prize was awarded by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian under the Programa Gulbenkian de Estímulo à Investigação Científica, in 2005.
- Best scientific research project in Numerical Analysis of Partial Differential Equations with the work Numerical Analysis of Partial Differential Equations in General Relativity and String Theory: Applications to Gravitational Radiation and to the AdS/CFT Conjecture. The prize was awarded by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian under the Programa Gulbenkian de Estímulo à Investigação Científica, in 2002.
